How to Read the Tree
The tree works in one direction: a chicken in the lower branch lays the egg of the branch above it. Hover any chicken in the index to see which egg it lays, and open any egg to see its chicken pool.
Once you understand this two-way map, you can target any chicken in the game by working the branch backwards: find the chicken, find its egg, find its producer.
